Political Advertising Policy
Rules for paid political and issue advertising on Advotecate.
Last updated:
1. Scope
This Policy covers candidate ads, PAC ads, ballot-measure ads, paid issue advocacy, sponsored civic messages, and any other communications promoted for a fee through Advotecate that relate to elections, legislation, public officeholders, or public-policy issues.
2. Advertiser Eligibility and Verification
Where Advotecate offers political advertising, advertisers must provide the identity, organization, true sponsor, billing, authority, and jurisdiction information requested before an ad may run. Covered ads will not run until required verification and review are complete. Enhanced verification may apply to campaigns, PACs, nonprofits, coalitions, and high-risk or first-time advertisers.
3. Disclaimers and Sponsor Information
Advertisers are responsible for including all legally required disclaimers and sponsor information. Before a covered ad may run, Advotecate will require the payer or sponsor name, applicable authorization or non-authorization statement, and any other disclaimer information required for the ad's medium and jurisdiction. Required disclaimers must be clear and conspicuous and must remain associated with the approved creative.
4. Prohibited Ads
We may reject or remove ads that:
- Violate law or platform policy.
- Mislead people about voting, eligibility, dates, locations, or results.
- Conceal the true sponsor or use prohibited-source funds.
- Impersonate election authorities, campaigns, or public institutions.
- Target users in ways that violate privacy, discrimination, or child-safety law.
- Contain deceptive manipulated media likely to mislead users about civic facts or public safety.
5. Review and Recordkeeping
Covered political ads are reviewed before publication and may be reviewed again afterward. We may require edits, additional documentation, jurisdictional limitations, or supplemental disclaimer information, and may pause or remove an ad that no longer satisfies law or policy. We retain records reasonably necessary to document approved creative, sponsors, spend, delivery, verification, and review activity for legal compliance, safety, disputes, and platform integrity.
Advotecate does not represent that it maintains a public political-ad archive unless a public archive is expressly identified in the Service. Internal records may be preserved longer when required by law, legal process, an investigation, or a legal hold.
